How the future toilet is being developed at Helbling Technik
Within the Reinvent the Toilet Challenge of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation we are developing a toilet system without water connection for in-home applications.
The Foundation’s goal is to create sustainable installations in developing countries – for people with low income and no access to clean sanitation.
The entire system has a small footprint, which makes it suitable for use in rooms with limited space. The functional design with robust and easy to clean components allow worldwide application. Among other things, it was a great challenge to produce clean waste without using a water connection. In the implemented concept, this is sustainably enabled by a closed water cycle.
SRF Forward, SRF’s young team of journalists researches and presents background information on urgent, current topics. The report «Toilette der Zukunft: Hygiene für Menschen in Armut» was produced in cooperation with Helbling.
